Volusia County Farm Bureau students never fail to impress the judges at the Annual Farm Bureau Youth Speech Contest held each April.
This year’s competitors gave a five-minute speech on the topic, “How does Florida Farm Bureau Federation help connect youth with Florida agriculture?” Their speeches were given in front of members of the Volusia County Farm Bureau board of directors and other guests on Monday, April 15.
The winners are – first place Chris Nordman, second place Lacy Box, and third place Jamie Hanken.
Winners were selected based on content, how well the student demonstrated knowledge of the topic, accuracy of information, effective delivery, clarity and expression.
These top three speeches earned the speakers $300, $250 and $200 respectively for first, second and third place.
Chris Nordman will go on to District competition. If he wins in the District, he will compete in the State championship during the Florida Farm Bureau Annual Meeting at the end of October. Prizes there are $500 for first place and $250 for second.
