Pranav Swaminathan, a 17 year-old junior from Volusia County’s Spruce Creek High School took first place in the Florida Farm Bureau Youth Speech Contest. Eight teens from around Florida competed virtually during the Farm Bureau Annual Meeting on Oct. 22.
Swaminathan has won the Volusia County Farm Bureau Youth Speech Contest three non-consecutive years. In August, he won the District competition, too.
Students in the Youth Speech competition research, write and present a five-minute speech based on an annual theme. For 2020 it was “What are 3 major challenges that you feel Florida agriculture is facing?” Winners earn bragging rights and cash prizes.
