Volusia agriculture representative goes to Hill

Farmers from across the country met with lawmakers in Washington, D.C. during the annual Field to the Hill event in May. The trip gives farm bureau members an opportunity to discuss the latest agriculture issues with legislative leaders.

Victoria Register, who works for Fern Trust, Inc. in Pierson and is Volusia County’s Young Farmers and Ranchers chairperson, represented Volusia County Farm Bureau during the event.

“During this year’s Field to the Hill, I was able to get briefings from industry experts on various agricultural issues, discuss policy and policy implementation with members of Congress, and discuss USMCA (trade agreement between the US, Mexico and Canada) with the Canadian embassy. To top off our trip our Florida Farm Bureau State Women’s Committee got a personal tour of the Capitol from Congressman Ted Yoho’s wife, Carolyn. We also had a meeting with Chris Chafee, associate director in the Office of Public Liaison for the White House. That meeting ended with watching President Trump arrive on the White House lawn via Air Force One,” said Register.
