The winners of the 2022/23 Harley V. Cultip Memorial Scholarship have been chosen. Volusia County Farm Bureau leaders presented $1,000 scholarships to three T-Dewitt Taylor Middle-High School students, Brittany Cowart, Karen Kelly, and Sarah Hagstrom, on May 19. Also receiving $1,000 scholarships this year were college students Kaley Cowart and Grace Bishop. Congratulations to the winners.
“I am proud of Volusia Farm Bureau supporting these students as they continue their education and I want to encourage more students to apply next year,” said Volusia Farm Bureau President Mark McGee.
College scholarships have been a tradition of Volusia Farm Bureau since 1978 when then Volusia Farm Bureau President Michael Braddock instructed Board Member Jack Shuman to explore offering college scholarships. The first two college scholarships were awarded in the spring of that year.
The scholarship program is named for longtime Executive Director Harley Cutlip. Cutlip served in that role for 19 years.
Volusia County Farm Bureau firmly believes educating the younger generation on the importance of agriculture and helping them learn where their food comes from is essential to the future of food production. Monetarily supporting that education is important, too. That’s why Farm Bureau donates to teachers and awards students.
