Volusia Young Farmers and Ranchers win big at national convention

Volusia’s Young Farmers and Ranchers members at the AFBF Convention.

Volusia County Farm Bureau won big at the American Farm Bureau Federation Annual Meeting in San Juan, Puerto Rico Jan. 6-11. The Young Farmers and Ranchers Leadership Program members received an Award of Excellence for their Taste of Volusia Event. YF&R is for anyone interested in agriculture, ages 18-35. The Volusia group is focused on accurate communication about agriculture in the county. They held Taste of Volusia, an event where farmers have a meet and greet with residents. Attendees got to try some good food right off the farm, listen to music and enjoy a cash bar. The event was so successful it gained national attention. AFBF President Zippy Duvall gave them the award. Another Taste of Volusia is being planned for March 2023. Tickets are on sale now. Click the link below.

Bernie LeFils, a YF&R member in Orange City placed a respectable second-place runner-up in the Discussion Meet. The Discussion Meet simulates a committee meeting and includes an active discussion with other participants. Winners are judged on how they exchange ideas and the information they present on a predetermined topic.

Congratulations to all Volusia YF&R members!!
